Across town, Brystle had arrived at her former husband’s home. This was the first time she had been able to visit him following his assault and robbery the previous week which had resulted in Clarke being hospitalized. He had alleged that Burke had been behind the assault but after he had been arrested, Burke was released without charge pending further investigation.
The guilt of what had happened to Clarke was eating away at Brystle for she believed that Burke had arranged the attack on her former husband. Now she wanted to see with her own eyes jsut what had been inflicted upon her former husband and when he opened the door she was horrified at the scars he bore. Clarke however was not very receptive of her visit.

The mention of the payment of bills only infuriated Clarke all the more. He had left Burke’s office with a check for 5 million Simoleons, his payoff for granting Brystle the divorce. But the assault had also been a robbery and the check was stolen leaving Clarke battered, bruised and broke.

There was no use in trying to deny it publicly any longer. Brystle had wrestled with her conscience long enough and realised she could no longer defend Burke’s actions. If only she knew that in this instance that she was wrong for Burke had nothing to do with the attack on Clarke. It had all been arranged by Texas, her revenge against Clarke for his betrayal (Plot reminder- Texas had brought Clarke to Windenburg when she learned Brystle’s first marriage had never been annulled in the hope that Burke would be furious and throw Brystle out of the mansion. Clarke was to have refused to divorce Brystle , not to take the money and run!)

Clarke’s harsh words were not only hurtful but also left Brystle with a sinking feeling that something terrible was coming her way…

Meanwhile back at the mansion, there was trouble about to explode for the Drysdale’s. Their guest suite in the west wing was about to be rocked by a startling revelation from Mayhew. He stood looking out of the window pensively, knowing that what he was about to say to his wife Malaudia would surely bring her world crashing down yet again. Whilst he knew his wife was of a fragile mental state, he could no longer go on living a lie – their marriage was dead. He loved Brystle and he was calling time on his life with Malaudia. He intended on leaving Siloli this evening and he planned on taking Brystle with him. However, he didn’t count on Malaudia being one step ahead of him…

Mayhew turned around to face his wife. There was no use in going on with the charade of a marriage any longer. Malaudia knew the score and it was time she heard everything.

Malaudia marched straight forward and with all her might smacked Mayhew across the face leaving him stunned.

Malaudia of course was referring to the murder of Detective Morelli earlier that year by Mayhew’s deranged mother. She had been the one who had driven Malaudia insane and had her locked up in a simitarium and blackmailed her doctor to keep her there. Once she got rumbled by Detective Morelli she shot him in the attic of the Drysdale family home before setting fire to the place and fleeing the country taking Malaudia and Mayhew’s daughter Mimsy with her. There hadn’t been a sighting of the fugitive geriatric or her teen granddaughter since despite them both being on the SBI’s 10 Most Wanted list as well as Simterpol.

This wasn’t how he expected Malaudia to be. In fact, Mayhew could see signs of her erratic trait starting to re-emerge. But he couldn’t let that stop him from making this hard decision otherwise nothing would ever change between them.

Malaudia had heard enough! The audacity of Mayhew to stand there and declare his love for another woman!

With that, Mayhew opened the door and left, walking out on his marriage for good. Alone in the room, Malaudia stood staring at the closed door.

And then suddenly…..she snapped…

The voices…they were back in her head….voices that she had tried so very hard to suppress over the past few years….voices that Mother Drysdale had so cruelly exploited when she had driven Malaudia to the edge of insanity….

Malaudia staggered forward and clutched the side of the dresser to steady herself, trying so desperately to silence the voices in her head.

But it was too late, the voices were now in control. And in a fit of rage, Malaudia screamed at the top of her lungs. But would anyone hear her…????
